Big Rig FD

Big Rig FD Introducing the Big Rig FD! One of Jackson Kayak's most popular fishing kayaks now gets the upgrades of both its HD predecessors, the Coosa HD and Cuda HD with the addition of Flex Drive pedaling power. The FD will be compatible with the upcoming E-Drive motor giving users a truly hands-free fishing experience, where the rudder controls return to foot control and our battery will take you anywhere you want to go. Hull size and performance are comparable to the original Big Rig, but features an elongated keel for superior tracking while paddling, pedaling, or motoring. The FlexDrive system allows forward and reverse, has unique articulation to adapt to shallow water, obstacles, or cleaning, and is removable for true kayak use. The FD version of the Big Rig takes advantage of the past 5 years of HD upgrades with some twists. It features the High Hi-Lo Ergo Seat Frame with MOLLE System, which includes infinite fore-aft trimming. The unique Big Rig rod troughs are doubled up with TWO rod tubes on both sides of the bow. The Big Rig FD's new rod staging system lets you set down and snap up your rods at a moments' notice. Unlike the other models, the rod tubes can also accommodate fly rods up to 9' in length with fly reel geometry behind the seat. Jackson Kayak's use of track systems remain throughout giving you flexibility in setting up for the day of fishing and our hulls are molded for Raymarine and Power-Pole readiness. Storage is upgraded throughout the Big Rig FD with hatches updated to new rotating latches.

Product Features

  • 1  - Improved Front Hatch, Including Hypalon Paddle Blade Keeper

The new JK hatch now comes with heavy duty latches. Tuck your paddle blade under this Hypalon keeper to get it out of the way but still in arm's reach - snag-free for your treble hooks! Resistant to UV damage and temperature extremes, this material will keep your paddle safe!
  • 2  - Four Rod Tip Tube Protectors

Storage for four rods with extended reach for fly rods as well.
  • 3  - Flex Drive System

Allows for hands-free fishing, forward and reverse, unique articulation to adapt to shallow water and obstacles.
  • 4  - Gear Tracks  - YakAttack

Located on both sides and in the front and rear of the kayak, the Yakattack gear tracks are built into the kayak in easily accessible locations for adding accessories and RAM Mounts.
  • 5  - Three-bladed propeller

Three-bladed propeller allows for a shallow draft. Blade pitches can be adjusted to your pedaling style.
  • 6  - Hinged Prop Cover

Cover seals when drive unit is deployed and automatically raises when drive is retracted.
  • 7  - High Hi-Lo Ergo Seat Frame with MOLLE System

New for 2019 is an updated Ergo Seat Cover, complete with MOLLE compatible webbing on the rear of the seat, and a removable MOLLE panel underneath. A new custom MOLLE pouch for tackle comes standard (on certain models), and now you can customize both behind and under your seat for tackle and gear management with the myriad of MOLLE compatible attachments readily available on the market. This seat sits higher than our traditional ‘high’ position on other fishing kayaks, improving ergonomics for ease of pedaling.
  • 8  - Integrated Rudder Control System

Our integrated rudder control system allows precise direction correction while pedaling and can be operated with left, right, or both controls.
  • 9  - PowerPole Ready - PowerPole Micro Anchor

  • 13  - Omega Rod Holder with Track Mounted LockNLoad Mounting System

New for 2019, this truly universal rod staging solution from YakAttack works flawlessly with spinning, casting, larger conventional reels, and yes – even fly rods of all sizes. A 360 degree rotating collar offers the ability to quickly secure the rod by capturing the reel, and allows spinning reels to be stowed in the natural downward position, not hung off the side. Multiple modes allow anglers to easily stage rods for quick access or lock them in for maximum security.
  • 14  - MOLLE Snap Seatback Pouch

  • 16  - Rod-Friendly Deck Geometry

Unique contours on deck let you set your rods down and make quick adjustments while keeping them close at-hand.
  • 17  - Integrated Paddle Clip

Keep your paddle close at-hand yet out of the way with our paddle clip system.
  • 18  - Hatch Bin

This handy front hatch bin keeps items in your front hatch right where they should be - accessible.
  • 19  - Two-Tiered Rod Stagers

Two of our innovative rod stagers are included with the Big Rig HD/FD, making it easy to secure both rod butts and tips while preventing tangles.
  • 20  - Bigger Rod Trough

The original Big Rig rod trough has received an upgrade! Increased width means more rods can be secured in the trough.
  • 21  - Improved Hull Design

The original Big Rig was a favorite for its stability, but it lacked maneuverability and speed. The Big Rig HD/FD has all this and more included in the updated hull design!

Have to say I’m a little upset. I posted a comment a few months ago saying that if you guys would put an fd in the big rig I would buy it in a heart beat. Well I am now the owner of a PA 12 instead. You could have at least put a teaser out there and I probably would have waited and been one of the first in line.

Aw, sorry Mike! Our comment section got spammed by 1000 robots and we haven’t been as good at checking on it until it was fixed recently. Very sorry we didn’t have a heads up for you! Clay

No pun intended, but I’m in the same boat with you Mike. I purchased a Lure 13.5 for potential upgradability. Couldn’t afford the entire set up all at once, but kayak one year and drive the next makes it a little easier. I will not be purchasing the overdrive for my Lure though. I will sell it and check out whats out that year.

Rutabaga in Madison may have one to try when they come out. They also host Canoecopia in which Jackson was there with all their new boats.

Im going to pre order one for sure. I have a 2017 Big Rig im selling. Want to know color options please. I may order a custom color if i dont like the offering.

    1. September 24, 2018 at 10:51 am

Hey Kenneth! I believe the new color options went up recently but if not, check with your dealer about timelines on a custom color! For most boats it’s a $200 uncharge and several extra weeks depending on whether we are molding those right now or not. Contact your dealer or to check how long it will take right now on that model. You can usually choose among every color we use in other boats, so it’s pretty fun. Clay

When will the final design, specs, and colors be released for the Big Rig FD. I recently posed a question of tankwell size and the answer I received was it was still in development. Would just like everything finalized prior to potentially ordering.

    1. November 12, 2018 at 9:43 am

Hey Jason, sorry for the delay here. We just blessed the first production boat; that rear tankwell is at 18.5″ x 19″. Its all been finalized now, order away 😉

I’m going to sell my current Big Rig and purchase the FD version. Does the FD come with the HD Paddle Pod in order to use without the pedal drive? If have the HD version, what is the cost of the FD Pedal Pod?

    1. February 12, 2019 at 10:27 am

Hey Steve! The Paddle Pod and Pedal Pods are separate accessories you can pick up in our online store – retail for either is $149. If you’re converting HD > FD and already have a kayak with the FlexDrive system (Coosa FD) you can move the upper and lower units to the Pedal Pod. If you need to purchase the upper and lower units separately they are $599 and $799 respectively.. so if you’re looking to pedal and don’t already have a unit, purchasing the FD version of the Big Rig and purchasing the Paddle Pod as an accessory to convert to the HD version would make more $ sense.

This is simply the best most comfortable kayak I have ever been in. I love this boat and can’t say enough about it, it is a complete joy to fish out of, and so stable I have such a solid piece of mind to stand or sit in any condition. Love it, great boat, thank you Jackson Kayak

I have to say I never really thought of getting a kayak till this year. Was looking at a different maker. But I seen a video on YouTube that made me really like the idea of getting one of these. And I plain on it with in the next 10 months.
